    <description>it now uses the REST framework built within Pylons to wrap existing functionality</description>
    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>In addition to exposing REST web services, Synthesis also has been ported to a buildout framework.  Buildout is sort of like Ant (Java) for Python.  It automatically gets from the Internet and builds all the other open source dependencies it needs to run.  So it's easy to install now.  <a class="external-link" href="http://xsd.alexandriaconsulting.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/browser/trunk/synthesis/docs/synthesis_install_read_me.txt">Instructions</a> for installing on Linux are online.  Apparently, the Pyramid framework will replace Pylons, and when it becomes stable, we'll look at switching to Pyramid.  We're using Synthesis as a Web Service for a corrections/human services data sharing project.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p>The release schedule for Synthesis is <a class="external-link" href="http://sites.google.com/a/211tampabay.org/projectsynthesis/implementation#TOC-Implementation-Phases">here</a>.&nbsp; Now, the warehouse is acquiring Web Services support, so it can dynamically "talk" to another external system, instead of transferring large batched XML/CSV data sets.&nbsp; Some human services software provides this functionality, and we want to support this advancement in capabilities.</p>
